IN MARCH 1906, the Eastern Telegraph Company launched a monthly family magazine called ‘The Zodiac’. It cost twopence and at first, did not contain any reference to cables and telegraphy but served as a vehicle for staff literary aspirations. Soon however, ‘The Zodiac’ became a source of information about life at stations and branches around the world, with reports on social events, sports, retirements and promotions.

‘The Zodiac’ continued under the same name until 1972 when the name of the staff magazine was changed to ‘Mercury’. In 1989 it was re-launched as ‘The Recorder’ and in 1992 it became ‘World’.
