SINCE THE 1870’S Cable & Wireless and its ancestral companies have trained telecommunications engineers. In the 1870’s informal training at Porthcurno was started. Then, as today, telecommunications employed the most modern technology and required detailed specific training.
Training took place in London at Electra House and at Hampstead. In 1950, Porthcurno opened as an engineering college. Other colleges around the world were established to provide local training of a high standard and the tradition of excellence in training continues today.
