Pacific Cable Board booklet, 1924.

IN 1887 AT Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Conference, the idea of laying a Pacific Cable linking Canada and Australia was presented but it was not until 1901 that the Pacific Cable Bill finally received Royal Assent. On the 8th December 1902, the first Pacific telegraph cable between Canada and New Zealand was opened to the public.

In 1929 the cables of the Pacific Cable Board came under the ownership of Imperial and International Communications Limited.
