IN 1965, A new radio technology, Tropospheric Scatter, was introduced to the Eastern Caribbean by Cable & Wireless (West Indies). This was superseded in 1972 by the Eastern Caribbean Microwave system. The Caribbean has continued to develop excellent inter-island communications using advanced technology and, in 1991, a new digital microwave system was installed.
In the 1990’s the provision of domestic services increased, notably in Jamaica. By 1995 Cable & Wireless operated 15 separate telephone businesses in the Caribbean and mobile services in 10 Caribbean countries.
